BREEDS WE RAISE

SALMON FAVEROLLES
Faverolles are easily a farm favorite! They are a quirky, fun breed. Salmon Faverolles have many breed traits that I love- muffs, beard, feathered feet, five toes (one more than most breeds), and a super fun, docile personality! Hens and roosters have different color patterns and can be identified as early as 3-4 weeks when feathering out. My breeding pens are focused on hen lines. I brought in excellent quality birds from Southgate Faverolles and Two Twins Farm to start my flock, and I have been very selective with the quality of birds I have chosen to continue working with.

OPAL LEGBAR
*Our flock is 100% DNA tested homozygous for the blue egg gene*

The Opal Legbar is a beautiful breed that is autosexing, meaning you can distinguish pullets from cockerels at hatch. They are a gorgeous opal color and they have a fun crest on their head. Legbars are good layers of blue eggs. Our flock lays a range of blue to greenish-blue colored eggs.
Many flocks of Opal Legbars are not yet tested for the blue egg gene, and people are disappointed when they end up with light cream eggs from a breed that should be laying blue. We have invested in DNA testing our entire flock to insure that our customers know what they are getting- no surprise cream eggs here!

Chicks: Pullets or Cockerels $25 each

BLACK COPPER MARANS
We love Black Copper Marans for their dark chocolate colored eggs. Marans are a hardy, fast growing, dual purpose breed. Our BCM are some of the most docile and friendly birds we have.

Chicks: $15 straight run

OLIVE EGGERS
These green and olive colored eggs are some of our favorites! Simply put, an olive egger is a cross between a brown egg layer and a blue egg layer. The first generation crosses are fairly straightforward, but as you cross that generation to roosters carrying different egg color genetics, the resulting offspring have a wide variety of possible egg colors. We back cross our OE with Marans roosters to create a darker olive.
*Please note that the back cross OE will lay 50/50 olive or brown, We select only hens that lay olive for our breeding program*

BLUE/BLACK/SPLASH AMERAUCANA
Always a favorite, and for good reason! Ameraucanas are well recognized by their beards and muffs as well as the fact they lay blue eggs. Ameraucana is a pure breed, although they are often confused with Easter Eggers that are mixes usually mislabeled as "Americanas" in feed stores or by hatcheries. Egg color can range from bright blue to greenish-blue within the breed, but we select for true blue egg color. Feather color is also variable within BBS breeding groups as chicks will hatch in Blue, Black and Splash color varieties.

The BBS genetics work the following way:
Blue x Blue = 50% blue, 25% splash, 25% black
Blue x Splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
Blue x Black = 50% blue, 50% black
Splash x Black = 100% blue
Splash x Splash = 100% Splash
